Abstract
1,031,114. Mirrors. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. Nov.30, 1962 [Dec. 1, 1961], No. 45446/62. Heading G2J. [Also in Division B7] A vehicle rear-view mirror 10 includes a mirror structure 22 comprising an enclosure formed by a front transparent window 60, an annular metal frame 62 and a synthetic rubber preshaped diaphragm 64 which embraces the frame 62 and has a lip 92 with a bend 96 interposed between the window and the frame to form a seal therebetween, the enclosure chamber 68 being filled with an optically dense liquid 70 which surrounds a mirror reflector 66 secured to the diaphragm and movable towards and away from the window 60 by means of a remotely controlled cable 120 against the noze of a spring 114, between a support plate 54, for the structure, and the diaphragm. The support plate 54 and the structure 22 are secured together by a rim 90 having a front flange 100 and rear tabs 104. The mirror structure is universally adjustable within a hood 14, supported by a mounting bracket 11, by remotely controlled cables 42, 44 & 46 connected to the plate 54 against the noze of a spring 48, in known manner. In the position of the mirror shown, it abuts stops 76 around the window with only a thin film of liquid between it and the window. This position gives high reflectivity from the mirror surface. When the mirror 66 is moved away from the window 60 the optically dense liquid passes from the rear of the chamber around the edge of the mirror to the space between the latter and the window which then serves as a reflector of low reflectivity.
