Abstract

1,031,023. Centrifugal fans. LUWA A.G. Jan. 28, 1964 [Feb. 1, 1963], No. 3598/64. Heading F1C. In a fan in a ventilation plant for air-raid shelters, driven selectively by an electric motor or by hand, a transmission system between a hand crank and the fan shaft is multi-stage, has a belt and/or chain drive and is coupled with the fan shaft by a free-wheel arrangement. In the event of failure of the electrical supply to the motor 5 driving the fan 21, the fan is driven manually through a crank 26 and a three-stage transmission system comprising a first stage chain drive 27-29 and second and third stage belt drives 32-34 and 37, 38, 40 respectively, the part 40 being a free-wheel device which free-wheels on the fan and motor shaft 39 when the motor is driving the fan. Intermediate shafts 30, 35 are adjustably mounted in slots 31, 36 in the lateral walls of a casing 24. The motor 5 may be mounted laterally of the fan 21 and arranged to drive the latter through a belt and a free-wheel device which free-wheels when the fan is driven manually. A dtnamo 41 driven by the wheel 32 supplies an emergency lamp 42; the dynamo and lamp may be of the conventional bicycle type. The plant is mounted to a wall by a flange 23. In an alternative embodiment the transmission system comprises two stages, the first a chain drive and the second a belt drive. The transmission system may comprise belt drives only or chain drives only, or the first stage may comprise gear-wheels.
