Abstract

[Also in Division F1] With a spool valve 16 in the position shown pneumatic pressure in a line 56 has access to the left side of piston 62 via a line 58, the opposite side of the piston being open to an exhaust line 66 containing a needle valve to control the piston speed. At the end of the piston movement the pressure builds up in a spool-actuating chamber, which is open to line 58, until it is sufficient to overcome the holding force between an adjustable armature 22 on the spool and a permanent magnet 26 whereupon the spool valve is urged to its opposite position to effect reversal of the piston in a similar manner to that described but in conjunction with another armature and magnet at the other end of the spool. In this manner the piston is continuously reciprocated. The piston may be replaced by a flexible bag, e.g. for controlling the flow of grain to one or more containers.
