Abstract

103,009. Parkes, S. R. Jan. 18, 1916. Projectile fuses.-Relates to safety-devices for hand-grenades of the kind in which the striker of the time-fuse is normally held back against the action of a spring by a hand-lever. According to this invention, a device for locking the lever consists of a bar, oblong in cross-section, fitting into slotted openings or holes in lugs on the body of the grenade. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the locking-bar D is spring-controlled, and fits in keyhole slots e<1>, Fig. 2, in the lugs E between which the lever A is pivoted. The head d' of the bar engages in a groove e<2>. The bar is moved into the releasing position by pressing it endways and rotating it. Fig. 6 shows a modified locking- device comprising a part D having projections d<2> passing through holes in the lugs E. The piece D is removed by turning it downwards about the pivots d<2> and then moving it laterally, the lugs E being suitably out away for this purpose. In a further modification, a locking-piece somewhat similar in shape to the part D is normally retained in the locking position by a thumb-operated catch pivoted on the lever A, No rotary movement of the locking-member is necessary in this case.
