Abstract

1,029,871. Knitting machines. S. A. MONK (SUTTON IN ASHFIELD) Ltd. S. A. MONK and B. A. MONK. Feb. 10, 1965 [Feb. 14,1964; July 29, 1964], Nos. 6260/64 and 30085/64. Heading D1C. In a parallel knitting-machine needle selection is made by pistons, operated hydraulically or pneumatically, operating on needle actuating members. The needles may be actuated by jacks 16 raised by pistons 24 so that the butts 18 project into the cam track 20. The pistons are arranged in three staggered rows in block 26 and may be raised in groups, e.g. every sixth piston in each bed, by suitably arranging the fluid supply channels. In a modification the needles are actuated by sliders pushed axially by the pistons, which are mounted parallel to the needles. Traverse of the cam box then operates the selected needles when exhaust air or hydraulic lines are opened the pistons are returned to their lowermost positions pneumatically or by springs 29 respectively. Idle needles at the ends of the beds are kept inactive by a bar 63 preventing the pistons rising or by a bar above the ends of the jacks. Fashioning. After the cam traverse a group of pistons at the end of the row are retained in the raised position by an electromagnet 52, and the associated needles moved forward by bar 53, the loops are transferred to the fashioning points and from thence to their new needles. Electromagnets 52 and bars 63 at each end of the beds are movable along the axis of the machine.
