Abstract

1,029,641. Jointing by stamping. BURNDY CORPORATION. Jan. 4, 1965 [Jan. 10, 1964], No. 225/65. Heading B3Q. A crimping &c. tool comprises opposed body portions 10, 12, Fig. 1 (not shown), connected by holding means 14 and carrying dies 38, 42, means for applying a closing force to the die 38 and located on one side of the means 14, and means 24 located on the other side of means 14 for applying a counterbalancing force. The forces may be applied by electromotors, manually-operated linkages or by fluid-pressure. In the latter, rams 18, 22 apply the pressure and are connected to a common source 26 of fluid-pressure. Rotation of the die 38 is prevented by contact between corners 48 of the die-carrier and spacing sleeves 16 on the holding bolts 14. In another construction, Fig. 3 (not shown), a projection 162 on the body portion 110 bears against the body portion 112, and the tool is pre-stressed by tightening the connecting bolt 114.
