Crucible furnaces.-In a gas-fired crucible furnace, a separate combustion chamber d is arranged at one side and beneath the level of the crucible chamber a, and has an inclined wall e, down which the slag flows to the outlet. Gas and air are suppliied from a flue h<1> and a regenerator i<1> respectively, to ports g at the upper part of the chamber d. When the cover c of the crucible chamber is lifted, the outlet flue j may be put in direct communication with the chimney flue k by lifting the damper l.
