Abstract

1,029,279. Electric lighting fittings. PRESTON INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH Ltd. Aug. 1, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962], No. 46307/62. Heading F4R. [Also in Division E2] A fitting for circular fluorescent discharge lamps comprises a frame composed of radial arms secured at their inner ends to a central member carrying mountings for a ballast lamp and electric control gear, clip means for holding the tube on the arms, an annular light diffusing element being spaced around the tube and supported by the clip means, a light diffusing member surrounding the ballast lamp and a sleeve surrounding the control gear. In the form shown, the tube 1 is supported at the ends of arms 2 of inverted channel shape carried by a central member 3 which also supports a socket 11 for the ballast lamp 12. D- shaped plates 17 carried by the member 3 support the control gear and also a U-shaped bracket 18 carrying a plug 19 for connecting the fitting to a lampholder. A light diffusing tube 13 surrounding the ballast lamp 12 is supported by spring arms 14 on the central member 3, the arms having outward projections engaging in holes 16 in the tube 13. A looselyfitting sleeve of opaque material rests on the plates 17 and surrounds the control gear and plug 19. An annular diffusing plate 7 is supported on the arms 2 by spring clips 6 which also serve to hold the tube 1 in place, the clips being of U-shaped wire with the base of the U secured to the plate 7 and the outturned ends entering apertures 9 in the arms 2.
