A check-valve has two lightly-loaded semicircular closure flaps 6, 7 (Fig. 1, not shown), on a common diametral shaft 8 that co-operate with an annular seat ring ; the flap edges which are parallel to the shaft are knife-edged to sever any fibrous material in the fluid. The shaft and flaps may be at an angle to the easing diameter and the seat ring may be integral with the casing.
