A valve closure comprises a pair of hemispherical members 8 slidably engaged by a wedge member 7, the arrangement being such that rotation of a hand wheel 2 (Fig. 1, not shown) first raises member 7 to unseat member 8 and then rotates member 7 to align bore 71 with the inlet and outlet parts. Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown) illustrate two arrangements by means of which member 7 is held against rotation during all but the final movements of the hand wheel.
