Apparatus for bonding wood strips to the edges of boards comprises a hopper in which wood strips are stacked and pre-heated and from which they may be individually discharged, and a pair of pressure belts which receive the assembly of board and edging strip or strips and press them together. A board is placed on guide rails and drawn by a pair of endless belts past adhesive applicators which smear the side edges with adhesive. It is then drawn past hoppers in which strips are pre-heated by H.F. electric heaters, a strip being ejected from each hopper and aligned with an edge of the board as it passes. The mechanism for ejecting individual strips is operated by a switch actuated by the leading edge of the board. The assembly of board and edging strips is then fed between a pair of spring- tensioned endless belts which press the strips against the board's edges by the action of a series of spring-loaded rollers placed behind the active length of each belt. Pressure is maintained until the adhesive has set. In a modification the first pair of belt pulleys is arranged to swing outwards to enable the board assembly to be entered between the belts manually, the pulleys then closing up again to press against the board, due to actuation by a stop switch operated by the leading edge of the board. The entire apparatus is mounted on guide rails so that one half, about a longitudinal centre-line, may be moved away from the other half to accommodate boards of various widths.
