Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A boiler 1 of a steam turbine plant is fed with feedwater from a pump 2 driven by an auxiliary steam turbine 3. The steam supply to the turbine 3 is controlled by a governor 4 the setting of which is determined through a shaft 4a by a servomotor 5 responsive to the output of a comparator and amplifier 8 comparing an electrical signal from a device 7, representative of the quantity of feedwater required by the boiler at any instant, and a governor setting signal from a potentiometer 6 capable of one revolution over the range of governor settings. Rate feedback is derived from a device 9 coupled to the potentiometer 6 and non-linear relationships between waterflow and pump speed, and turbine speed and governor setting are compensated by parallel resistors across selected segments of the slider rotation. The rotary slider can be replaced by one having a translational movement. It is stated that an inductive pick-up can be substituted for the potentiometer.
