Abstract
The invention relates to a process for preparing cyclohexane carboxylic acid which comprises hydrogenating benzoic acid in the presence of a metal hydrogenation catalyst and water vapour, preferably the hydrogen used being saturated with water vapour prior to its introduction to the reaction zone. Palladium is the preferred catalyst though rhodium, ruthenium, platinum, iridium, nickel, and cobalt, in the form of the free metals, their oxides and various salts thereof, alone or in mixtures of two or more, may also be used.
