Abstract

1,028,311. Boots &c. RALPHS UNIFIELD Ltd. Jan. 13, 1961 [Jan 13, 1961 (2)], Nos. 1445/61 and 1447/61. Heading A3B. A shoe is made by using a pre-formed sole and heel unit which is accurately positioned on the insole by locating means on the insole which are also used to position the insole on a last for assembly with an upper. The insole 10 may be located on the upper by engaging slots 12, 13 in the insole with pegs 14, 15 on the last 16, the heel end of the upper 11 then being lasted to the insole. The removal of the last from the upper is facilitated by making the pegs 14, 15 shorter than the slots 12, 13. The sole and heel unit (not shown) may be located by using the same slots in the insole and pegs 26, 27, of the same size as the slots, situated at the heel, or by a different set of slots and pegs. The sole and heel unit may be formed by attaching a heel flap on the sole to the breast face of the heel, or by shaping the end of the sole to match a complementary recess in the heel.
