Abstract

1,028,244. Loading vehicle hoppers. M. F. FREEMAN, and F. LYTHGOE. March 1, 1963 [June 1, 1962; Aug. 8, 1962; Aug. 16, 1962], Nos. 21182/62, 30363/62 and 31894/62. Headings B8E and B8S. A hopper 20, provided with legs 19 pivoted to a trailer chassis 10, is movable from an inoperative transport position, Fig. 1, to an operative position, Fig. 3, in which it is supported on the legs 19 and on detachable legs 21a. An hydraulically-driven screw conveyer 29, pivoted at 28 to the hopper, delivers material from a receptacle 33 into the hopper from which the material is discharged through an outlet 25, closable by lever-operated pivotal members 26, into a mobile spreader (not shown) which may be housed within the hopper when the hopper is in its transport position, Fig. 1. In a modification (not shown) the legs 19 are provided with wheels running on tracks on the chassis, which may be self-propelled, whereby the hopper is displaced on the chassis without tilting. In a further modification (not shown) the hopper is provided with legs which are adjustable in height so that the hopper may be lowered on to the chassis of a lorry. The screw conveyer may be replaced by an endless belt or bucket conveyer and a second conveyer may be associated with the hopper outlet. The hopper may be partitioned and may be provided with a vibrator.
