Abstract
1,027,942. Card indexes. S. G. BAUMER. Dec. 14, 1964 [Jan. 15, 1964], No. 50822/64. Heading B6E. In a card index for a telephone or for business, wherein index cards 12 are stacked on a tray 11 slidable in a casing 10, the selection of a card is made by depressing one of a number of keys 14A carried by double-armed levers 14 pivoted on a shaft 13. All the cards have a hole 25 opposite the first key; all the cards but the top one 12A have a hole 25 opposite the second key; all the cards but the two top ones have a hole 25 opposite the third key; and so on. When the tray 11 is in the closed position, the cards are urged against an abutment 26 by a leaf spring 27 arranged on the end wall 17 of the casing. Arranged beneath the front edge of the casing top 18 are two stops 21, 22 having inwardly directed hooks. Each lever 14 is formed at the rear end as an arcuate hook 14B, and is arranged to pass through the holes 25, where such holes exist, or to raise a card which has no hole in that particular position and force it, and any other cards above it, over the hook-shaped stops 21, 22, assisted by the spring 27; whereupon, when the tray 11 is withdrawn, only those cards having holes engaged by the hooks 14 B are withdrawn. The shaft 13 is mounted in a block 13 secured to the front of the tray 11, and is recessed at 24, and slotted to receive the keys 14A. The top card 12A need not have a hole 25. The casing 10 may serve as a base for a telephone.
