Abstract

1326482 Index cards W KOLLER 19 April 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 21407/71 Heading B6E A card index as described in Specification 1,121,396 is modified to prevent damage to the index cards 1, Fig. 9, as they are withdrawn and pushed back into the case 4, Fig. 1, in that the pair of cams provided with the base 4a, Fig. 4, of the case 4 are replaced by a single central cam 50 received guidedly in a channel formed by a fillet 63 in the drawer 2 and the cam 50 co-operates with a bail 52 disposed in a groove 51 in the drawer and is mounted pivotally in the side walls 53, 54 of the drawer. When the drawer is in its closed position, the bail 52 is raised upwardly by the cam 50 acting on a yoke 55 which contacts the cam through an aperture 56 in the drawer 2 and the front edges of the index cards 1 are deflected upwardly away from the tips of entrainment members 6, Fig. 4. On depression of a key (not shown) the pin depending from the key engages a selection tab at the front edge of an index card to push the index card and any underlying cards downwardly such that the entrainment recesses 15 of the cards 1 are forced over the entrainment members 6, continued depression of the key releasing a latching mechanism (not shown) for the drawer, whereby a spring (not shown) pushes the drawer forwardly whilst the pin of the key prevents any index cards 1 overlying the selected index card from being withdrawn inadvertently. On closing of the drawer the index cards are pushed into the case 4 by projections 53a, 54a, Fig. 6, acting on shoulders of the index cards 1 formed by rebates 70, 71, Fig. 9. During closing of the drawer the yoke 55 of the bail 52 rides up the slope of the cam 50 to disengage the recesses 15 of the index cards from the entrainment members 6 whereby the natural resilience of the cards causes the front edges to be restored to their upwardly deflected condition.
