Abstract

1,027,833. Automatic voltage control. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 23, 1962 [Aug 3,1961], No.28200/61. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H1] An alternator 3 having a rectified output carries a voltage regulator which comprises a main transistor 11 in series with the field winding 10 of the alternator, a second transistor 12 controlling transistor 11, a potential divider 19, 17, 20 connected across the d.c.output,and a Zener diode 18. When the output voltage exceeds a predetermined value the Zener diode 18 conducts;the resultant conduction of transistor 12 then biases transistor 11 to reduce the field current of the alternator. The resistor 20 is preferably a thermistor bridged by a resistor 22. The transistor 11 is mounted on a heat sink carrying a cylindrical casing enclosing printed circuit boards and the other components of the regulator (Fig. 1,not shown).
