Abstract

1,027,732. Consuming vapours; drying. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 9, 1962], No. 3944/63. Headings F4B and F4G. An oven for drying coating solvents comprises an elongated chamber with a first heating section and at least one further heating section, means for conveying work through the chamber, a plenum chamber for directing heat gases into and an exhaust duct leading gases from the first heating section, a fan in the exhaust duct, a combustion zone downstream of the fan and catalytic combustion material across the combustion zone, a heat exchanger in which the burnt fumes from the first section heat air which is led to the plenum chamber and means for recirculating heating gas through the further heating sections. Enamelled or lacquered metal plates are fed through the oven by a conveyer 6, and hot air from a plenum chamber 16 between the conveyer runs in the first heating section 10 entrains fumes which are withdrawn by a fan 25, and fed through a zone 26 with burner 27 to an arrangement 29 of catalytic material to complete the combustion of the fumes. The hot gases pass through the tubes 33 of a heat exchanger 30 to an outlet 38. Air is drawn in at 39, passed over the tubes 33 and through dampers 43 to a chamber 42 where cold air is drawn in through dampers 47. The air is fed to the plenum 16 by a fan 44<SP>1</SP>. A fan 57 circulates the gases in the subsequent sections 11 of the oven, burners 67 serving to heat the recirculated gases. The hot air control dampers 43 and cold air inlet dampers 47 are linked and controlled in accordance with temperature in the oven.
