Abstract
1,027,692. Extruding. UNITED KING- DOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. May 28, 1963 [June 22, 1962], No. 24217/62. Heading B3P. A tube is formed by extruding a workpiece 22 between a die 4 and mandrel 16 by pressurizing a liquid in the container bore 23. The die 4 is sealed in the base by a copper ring 6 and is located axially by a plug 8 and support 10. Mandrel 16 has a head 17 spaced from the die by a sleeve 18 passing the billet chamber; passageways 19 connect opposite ends of the mandrel head 17 to allow pressure liquid in bore 23 to act directly on the workpiece 22. Pressure liquid is supplied by a pump to the outlet side of the die through bores 20, 21 and liquid is pressurized in container bore 23 by ram 13, whereby extrusion commences when this latter pressure exceeds that in bore 21.
