Abstract

1,027,274. Bearings. GEO. H. HUGHES Ltd. April 3, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 13553/63. Heading F2A. [Also in Division B7] In a bearing having an outer race and an inner race with balls or rollers therebetween, one of the races comprises a bush and an insert which is secured about the bush by deformation of the bush. In an embodiment, a bearing 5 comprises an outer race 7 having a radially outwardly projecting flange 8 at one end; and an inner race consisting of a bush 11 and an insert collar 12, which is mounted on a stepped portion 13 of the bush 11 and is retained thereon by an end 17 of the bush 11 being peened over an end 18 of the collar 12, the balls 6 having been previously placed in position. In a modification, the outer race consists of a bush and an insert. In another embodiment, an outer race 22 is integral with a flange 21 of a wheel 19, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the inner race comprises a bush 25 and an insert collar 26 which is retained in position by portions 28, 29 of the bush 25, which are bent radially-outwardly, the balls 24 having been previously placed in position. The bush 25 may be formed with axially-extending ridges 30 which project radially-inwardly for engagement with a wheel axle (not shown).
