Abstract

1,026,794. Side-operating lift trucks. R. HAUSER, F. BENGEL, A. SAUTER, and U. SAUTER, [trading as ALBERT IRION NACHF.]. Feb. 26, 1963 [Feb. 26, 1962; April 19, 1962], No. 7610/63. Heading B8H. [Also in Division B7] The mast 9 of a side-operating lift truck is movable transversely of the truck in an aperture between front and rear load-supporting platforms on telescopic guide rails which allow the mast to be extended beyond the side of the truck. As shown, guide rails 3 secured to the walls of the aperture are provided with detachable inserts 4 and slidably support guide rails 5, and the mast 9 is mounted on rollers 20, each having one tread adapted to run on the inserts 4 and another tread adapted to run on the rails 5. The outer ends of the rails 5 are provided with stabilizing rams 12, 13 having groundengaging feet 14, and the rails are extended by rams extending between the truck frame 1<SP>111</SP> and the ram cylinders 12. The mast 9 is moved along the guide rails 3, 4 by an hydraulically driven pinion 23 which is mounted on the mast and which engages a chain 22 extending between anchorages 7, 8 on the truck frame and passing over guide rollers 24, 25 and 26, 27 on the mast, the guide rails 5, the ram cylinder 15, respectively. In a modification, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the guide rails 5 are extended by engagement with the rollers 20 supporting the mast 9 and the mast is provided with a latch device which couples the rails to the mast so as to retract the rails as the mast is retracted. In a further modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the mast 9 is provided with rams 46, 47 carrying ground-engaging rollers 48.
