Abstract

Apparatus for germinating, kilning or otherwise processing grain includes a drum 1, Fig. 1, mounted for rotation upon rollers 7, having a charge space bounded by perforated deck 10 and perforated partition 11, through which air is circulated in the directions indicated by the arrows. Grain from a shoot 20 is charged into the space through an aperture in a stationary plate 18 supported on a structure 19 and registering with the drum inlet 3. At the end of a processing period, the grain is conveyed towards uncovered outlets 21 by helical ribs or blades 23 of opposite hands during the slow rotaion of the drum, for example at a rate of one revolution in 15 minutes. The outlets are closed during processing by removable or slidable air-tight closure doors (not shown) constructed so that the inner door faces are flush with the inside wall of the charge space. When the outlets are disposed at one end of the charge space, instead of intermediately, the helices are all of the same hand. <PICT:1026641/C6-C7/1>
