Abstract

A silpropylene-siloxane polymer comprising units of the formula <FORM:1025917/C3/1> and units of the <FORM:1025917/C3/2> wherein each R is hydrocarbon radical, R1 is -CN, -COOH, -CONH2, -COC1 or COO-alkyl, R11 is H or R1, and m is 0 to 3 and has an average value of 1 to 2.5, can be made (1) by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1025917/C3/3> with a siloxane of the average general formula <FORM:1025917/C3/4> (n=1 to 2.5) in the presence of an acid equilibration catalyst, (2) by reacting a mixture of compound (A) and one or more organochlorosilanes (RnSiCl4-n) with water in amount stoichiometrically equivalent to the Cl content of the silane reactant, or (3) by reacting compound (A) with HCl in the presence of thionyl chloride to yield. ClSi(CH3)2-CH2-C(R1)(R11)-CH2 -Si(CH3)2Cl and cohydrolysing this compound with one or more organochlorosilanes. Examples are given. Uses: As intermediates for modifying synthetic resins; copolymers containing nitrile groups can be incorporated in siloxane elastomers, or may be hydrogenated to yield the corresponding amino-compounds, and copolymers containing carboxyl groups are suitable as emulsifiers.
