Abstract

1,025,338. Steam turbine plant. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. and PAMETRADA. March 12, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 38013/63. Heading FIT. Marine steam turbine plant comprises high, intermediate and low pressure ahead turbine stages c, e and f respectively, high and low pressure astern turbine stages k and n respectively, a condenser g to which stages f and n are connected, and a single main boiler a for supplying superheated steam either to stage c, whence it passes by way of a reheater part d of the boiler under control of a damper n to stage e and thence to stage f, or to stage k and thence to stage m. The boiler feed water pump o, an electric generator j and an oil pump r are driven by the turbine stages; during astern operation and ahead operation at part power, their duties are taken over by a stand-by oil pump s, electric generator (not shown) and boiler feed water pump q which are operated by independent prime movers. When the engine speed drops below a certain value, these stand-by units may be operated automatically, as may the damper n to prevent overheating of the reheater d. Low pressure steam for auxiliary purposes is generated in an auxiliary boiler p which includes a heating coil through which high pressure steam from the main boiler is passed by way of a closed circuit.
