Abstract

1,025,066. Shearing &c. presses. C. BEHRENS A.G. April 27, 1964 [May 11, 1963], No. 17367/64. Headings B3H and B3W. A relief mechanism for a punching, stamping &c. machine comprises spring means 9 in or associated with the drive mechanism of a moving part 10. In an embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the springs 9 are on a telescopic connecting rod 5, 6 which, through a quadrant lever 19 and a link 22, drives a slide 10 from an eccentric 65. The springs 9 are compressed between collars 7, 8 by a nut 11. Upon overload, part 6 of the connecting rod slides in part 5, further compressing the springs and carrying an abutment 17 on a sleeve 16 surrounding the springs against a switch 18 which stops the machine. The locked mechanism may be released by turning an eccentric pin 18 normally held against rotation by a keeper, Fig. 2 (not shown). The force required for upward movements of the slide is transmitted between parts 5, 6 of the connecting rod through a shoulder 15 which bears on a split collar 14 on the part 5. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the connecting rod 47 drives the slide 10, through a toggle linkage 46. The relief mechanism permits movement of the fixed pivot 48 of the linkage upon overload and comprises a telescopic rod 31, 36 pre-loaded by springs 38 compressed by a nut 41. A link 35 on a pivot 49 connects the toggle linkage 46 to part 36 of the telescopic rod and turns about the pivot upon overload. This causes movement of part 36 of the telescopic rod in part 31, until an abutment 43 operates a switch 44. The link 35 may be dispensed with if the rod 31, 36 is coaxial with the slide 45 and connected direct to the pivot 48.
