Abstract

1,025,019. Machine tool details. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. Feb. 15, 1965 [May 18, 1964], No. 6518/65. Headings B3B and B3T. A lathe comprises a tool turret 26, a headstock 9, and a tailstock 19, slidable on ways 17, 18 formed on a bed 10. The turret is carried by a slide 24, which is movable on a saddle 21, towards the axis of work 16, so that the turret axis is skewed to the normal of the work axis. Saddle 21 is movable on ways 17, 18 by a screw 22, and slide 24 is movable on the saddle, by a screw 34, driven by a motor 29, through gears 32, 33. Turret 26 has slots 8 into which lathe tools 39 are secured, and is attached to a shaft 42. The shaft, along with the turret, is moved axially against springs 56, to allow indexing, by a fluid pressure piston 45, and toothed rings 58, 59 are provided to lock the turret against rotation when in an indexed position. The indexing is carried out by a rotary piston motor 62, 63 connected to shaft 42. A chip tray 8 is provided in base 10.
