Abstract

1,063,887. Work-holders. GEORG FISCHER A.G. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 30, 1963], No. 31218/64. Headings B3B, B3C and B3T. A turret 1 for a machine-tool comprises a number of work-holders A, B, C, D and at least one eccentrically-mounted axially-slidable and non-rotatable element 22 arranged to control two of the holders simultaneously. To insert a workpiece in a chuck A, a spring-pressed lever 47 is automatically or manually depressed to withdraw a work-holder half 6. The halves 5, 6 are threaded to hold a matching workpiece. The work is clamped fast, by a plunger 60 engaged by the conical cam 22 on a pneumatically-operated piston 21. The work is positioned against a locking-plate 65. The workpieces in the holders C, D are rough-, and finish-, machined by tools 75, Fig. 6 (not shown), in a rotary head, to produce a conical surface 73. The turret is indexed by a motor, is positioned by a plunger engaging recesses 37, and is clamped by engagement between conical members 11, 16. Since machining takes place from the rear of the turret, axial movement of the turret serves to relieve the tools to permit retraction thereof.
