Abstract

1,024,865. Converter linings. OSTERREICHISCH-AMERIKANISCHE MAGNESIT A.G. Feb. 12, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962], No. 5687/63. Heading F4B. A converter lining comprises magnesia bricks which have been burned whilst free from cokable binding agents and subsequently impregnated with a carbonaceous liquid cokable during operation of the converter. The liquid may be commercial steelworks tar containing at least 60% pitch. The bricks are impregnated when hot, preferably in a vacuum, and then cooled before use. Repeated impregnation with burning under reducing conditions between successive impregnations may be performed, the substance used for the last impregnation being coked during operation of the converter.
