Abstract
1,024,844. Steam turbines. PAMETRADA. Jan. 22, 1963 [Feb. 12, 1962], No. 5340/62. Heading FIT. A steam turbine comprises an inner casing and an outer casing, the inner casing comprising the abutting assembly of rims of the turbine interstage diaphragms and defining with the outer casing a steam zone. The diaphragms are each made in two parts, each part having an external flange which mates with the corresponding external flange of the other part, the flanges having lugs slidably supported on axially-extending ledges in the outer casing. Axial gaps between adjacent lugs provide communication between the portions of the steam zone on opposite sides of the ledges and lugs. In Fig. 3, the turbine comprises a series of diaphragms 1 each of which is formed with an axially thickened rim portion 2, the rim portions abutting together to form a turbine inner casing which is disposed within a cast outer casing 5. The diaphragms are each formed in two parts secured together at the horizontal plane by means of bolts 3 (Fig. 2, not shown), the abutting flanges of each diaphragm being received within a recess 4 within the outer casing whereby the assembly forming the inner casing is supported. Integral lugs 6 formed in the lower half of the outer casing engage recesses in the lower halves of the inner casing. Openings 10 are formed in the rim 2 of a diaphragm whereby steam may be bled from a turbine stage into an annular belt 9b. Further openings 10a are formed in the rim of a second diaphragm whereby steam bled from a lower pressure stage is supplied into a second annular belt 9a, the outlets from the steam belts 9b, 9a being indicated at 11b, 11a. The diaphragm rims abut at the downstream end against an annular flange 7 integral with the outer casing while at the upstream end, an annular ring 8 engages against the upstream end of the assembly of diaphragm rims and is received within an annular groove within the outer casing.
