Abstract

1,023,998. Recoil compensating charges. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Aug. 22, 1963 [Aug. 24, 1962], No. 33359/63. Heading F3A. A round of ammunition for a recoilless gun comprises a projectile attached to a cartridge case 1, a propellant 2 being housed in the case together with a recoil-compensating charge 3. Furthermore, to make adjustments according to muzzle velocity and range of the projectile, the case is extended to provide a rear chamber 4 in which an additional charge may be placed. The charge 3 may consist of discs of metal or synthetic plastics. Substances in powder form, which do not contribute to the burning of the charge 2, may be used in place of the discs. These substances may be placed in bags or bottles of synthetic plastics, the bottles having screw closures. Water, aqueous solutions, or sand may be used as fillings. The wall of chamber 4 has a bead 6 to hold a pack of discs 5 or bags (not shown) in place. Instead of the bead 6, the discs may be held in place by bolts, screws or springs, the compensating charge being adjusted according to firing conditions.
