Abstract

A seal between the end face of the resilient stator of a helical screw pump and an adjacent stationary metal component comprises a bead formed on the stator end face which fits a corresponding groove in the metal component. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a bead 12 projecting from the end face 23 of an internally-threaded rubber helical pump stator 10 moulded into a steel tube 11 is of less width but the same crosssectional area uncompressed has a groove 21 formed in the metal spigot 14 provided with a machined shoulder 15, 16 which co-operates with the end face 18 and bore 17 of the tube when the bead is in sealing engagement with the groove. In a modification, the bead is located such that its outer diameter is substantially the same as the internal diameter of the tube with the bead base coplanar with the tube end face. In another embodiment in which the steel tube is omitted, a face 23 of the stator from which the bead 12 projects abuts a plane face 22 of the spigot 14 when the bead is sealingly received in the groove 21. An annular collar may then surround the stator at its end to prevent radial deformation due to liquid pressure within the pump.
