Abstract

An acid tin-plating bath includes as brightening agent compound of formula, X - CH = CH - Y, where X = C benzene, furane, or a pyridine ring, Y=formyl, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carboxyl, or acyl. Examples are, styrene, cinnamyl alcohol, benzylidene acetone, 1-benzylidene-7-heptenal, and furyl acrylic acid. Optional additions include imidazoline compounds, formalin, pyrocatechol as antioxidant, and phenol sulphonic acid or poly glycol ethers as wetting agents. The tin salt may be stannous sulphate or fluoborate.
