Improvements introduced in the preparation of an electrodeposition bath, acid, to deposit tin, containing bivalent tin ions; as anions, sulfate ions, sulfonate, fluoborate, a reducing agent and as a brightening agent an organic compound containing an aldehyde or ketone group, characterized in that the bath contains, as a brightening agent, one or more of the sufficiently soluble compounds of the formula ** (See formula) ** wherein each of the symbols R1, R2, R4 designates a hydrogen atom, an aromatic, heterocyclic or aliphatic group or a similar group wholly or partially hydrogenated, which may contain non-ionizable or non-reducible substituents therein; R3 represents hydrogen, an alkyl group or an esterified carboxylic group, or in which the combination ** (See formula) ** means a ring system, it being understood, however, that the group -C = C- therein is of the purely unsaturated type and that the bath further comprises a surface activating compound of non-ionic nature.
