Abstract

1,022,609. Screens for cable joints. HOLLANDSCHE DRAADEN KABELFABRIEK N.V. Oct. 14, 1964 [Nov. 20, 1963], No. 41956/64. Heading H2E. In a method of applying an earthing screen 8 to the inner surface of a cable sleeve 4 placed around a cable the sleeve consists of a tubular element of insulating material with a longitudinal slot 7, and a flexible electrically conducting plate 8 is fed through the slot 7 until it covers the inside surface of the sleeve 4. Connections 15, 16 from the cable are then made via cables 10, 11 to the plate 8. The earthing screen 8 consists of a metal plate, e.g. bars with perforations 9 or of a flexible conducting non- metallic material. In the former case one or both sides of the earthing screen are coated with a non-conducting material, e.g. artificial resin, except at the points where soldered connection to cables 10 and 11 are made. The sleeve 4 has slits 3 so that it may be opened up to allow fitting around a cable. Tabs 12 are bent over inwardly after the plates insertion and the sleeve is filled with resin. Sealing rings 5 and 6 of elastic material are provided.
