Heading D1L. A device for the continuous treatment (e.g. bleaching, dyeing, steaming) of continuous material such as fibre cables, bands or web 23b with at least one gaseous medium comprises a compartmented drum 5,14 in the compartment of which material is piled to be conveyed by the intermittent or continuous rotation of the drum and treated by gaseous medium introduced for example via a conduit 19. A pendulum motion device 27 lays the material in the compartments from which it is drawn after almost one revolution, by rollers 20. The drum may be closely surrounded by a wall or as shown an endless belt 4 may encircle the drum compartments except those in which the material is laid and from which it is withdrawn; a wall 18 is also provided. Gaseous medium e.g. steam may also be blown through inner wall 24 as at 25. The belt 4 may be driven independently or it may have members which engage other members on the drum walls 14 so as to be driven thereby. In a further form (Fig. 1 not shown) the compartmented drum is encircled by a wall and material is pushed into the compartments laterally by a piston. For unloading a flap is opened on the side of the compartment away from the piston and the material pushed through.
