Abstract

1,021,973. Internal shoe drum brakes. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Aug. 12, 1964, No. 32882/64. Heading F2E. Shoes 4 of an internal shoe drum brake are applied to drum 2 by expanding tongs formed by levers 9, 10 which are pivoted together at 11 between ears 12 of a bracket secured to the backing plate 1, thickened portions 7, 8 of the levers engaging directly between free ends of the shoes, which are pivotally mounted at 3, and a compressed-air diaphragm motor acting directly between the outer ends of the levers 9, 10. The motor comprises a housing 22 containing a diaphragm 21, piston 20 and return spring 27, the piston-rod 18 being pivoted to lever 10, and the housing being pivoted via a rod 19 to lever 9. Air is supplied at 25 to apply the brake. The release position of the tongs is fixed by a bridge-piece 15 of the bracket.
