Abstract

1,021,969. Grab excavators. SOC. NOUVELLE DES ATELIERS DE VENISSIEUX Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 5, 1963], No. 49706/64. Heading E1F. In a grab excavator, obtained by replacing the shovel of a shovel excavator with a grab, oscillations of the grab about the pivotal connection between it and the vertically swingable boom of the excavator are damped out by a boom-mounted piston cylinder unit associated with a throttling device for limiting between the end chambers of the unit passage of hydraulic fluid in response to movements of the unit's piston which is mechanically coupled to the grab. When arranged for shovel excavating operations the throttling device is disassociated from the unit to the ends of which pressurised hydraulic fluid is then arranged to be supplied as required to allow the unit which is mechanically connected to the shovel to pivot the shovel relative to the boom structure.
