Abstract
1,021,568. Driving instruction apparatus. R. BILLAT. April 23, 1964 [April 23, 1963; March 20, 1964], No. 16971/64. Heading B7H. The apparatus comprises two desk controllers connected through a common boom system to individual model vehicles T, T<SP>1</SP> which run on a simulated road system. As shown, each desk controller has a steering wheel V, accelerator pedal P and master and reversing electric switches A and I connected electrically with the corresponding model controls through mast 57, booms 58 and 65 and pivotal connections 59, 66 and 66<SP>1</SP> which each include a series of slip-rings (Fig. 10, not shown). In operation depression of pedal P first closes the circuit to the model driving motor and then controls the speed through a variable rheostat. Rotation of the steering wheel in either direction produces a series of current pulses which actuates the corresponding electromagnet S or Sa on the model (Fig. 9) to rotate ratchet wheel 30 or 30a through a pawl 29 or 29a and hence pivot the model steering wheel through gear ring 32 and linkage 33, 34.
