Abstract
1,021,048. Making valves. T. SHIBATA. May 15, 1963 [March 4, 1963], No. 19392/63. Heading B3A. A method of making a high-pressure stop valve body comprises forging a body blank 1 having inclined parallel side portions 2, 3, drilling parallel blind holes 4, 5 from each end thereof, forging the portions 2, 3 in a split die so that their axes are brought into alignment and made perpendicular to the body, drilling or boring a stepped blind hole 15 to connect with the holes 4, 5 and produce a valve seat 14 therebetween and providing threads 18, 19 therein to support a valve mechanism (not shown) and other fixing threads 20, 21. To facilitate the final forging operation material may be removed from the body at 8, 9 (Fig. 3, not shown) and the outer portions 10, 11 of the holes 4, 5 supported by mandrels inserted therein and supported by the forging dies.
