Abstract

1,020,698. Vehicle bumpers. DAIMLERBENZ A.G. Jan. 19, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2325/65. Heading B7J. A motor vehicle bumper of the kind having buffer strips is made in two flanged and spotwelded together portions 12, 13 to form a channel section or tubular member. The portions 19 of the flanges lock into a slot 16 in the strip 15 and hold the strip in tension, and over-riders 11, Figs. 2 and 6 (not shown), each comprising two flanged portions 20 support tensioned buffer stops 22. The parts 20 may be flanged as in Fig. 3 or provided with holes 17 into which are interlocked knobs 18 on the strip 22. This form of interlocking fastening may also be used for the strip 15 in which case the portions 19 of the flanges may be omitted.
