102,068. Southard, H. G. Jan 7, 1916. Drills and cutter -bars; reamers; taps. - The shackles or bodies are made in halves to facilitate the milling of the cutter recesses a<3>, Fig. 1, and oil conduits c<2>. Holes a<4> for locking screws for the cutter in the other half are provided. The halves are united by rivets at a<2> or by welding. Inverted cutter twist drills may be made in this way, the twisting being effected after welding. In the case of a tap, the halves a, a<1>, Fig. 5, are further united by pilot collars a<6> slotted at a<7> to pass cuttings. The chasers are adjusted by backing-up screws d<2> and locked by screwed wedges d<1>.
