Abstract

Drills of the adjustable-cutter type have the shank divided longitudinally into halves fluted at S and secured together by screws G, which also clamp the cutters arranged in recesses in the halves. The cutter A only slightly overlaps the axis, and the cutters B, C, D, E, F, in the order named, make overlapping cuts and are mounted at increasing inclinations from the centre outwards. By varying the angle of the cutting- edges and the projection of the cutters, the diameter of hole drilled and the character of the bottom of the hole are controlled, for example to produce a stepped hole. An oil conduit O<1> is provided along the centre of the drill and delivers on each side of the centre cutter.
