Abstract

1,020,519. Levane/gelatine/silver halide emulsions. FOTOCHEMISCHE WERKE BERLIN VEB. July 1, 1964, No. 27174/64. Heading G2C. Photographic gelatine-silver halide emulsions contain a levane (i.e. a poly-D-fructofuranose), in addition to, or partially replacing the gelatine. The levane preferably has a molecular weight of 5, 000 to 200, 000, is preferably used in an amount of 5 to 50% by weight based on the gelatine, and may be applied at any stage, but preferably after chemical curing. The levane may also be added to auxiliary layers adjacent to the silver halide layer. In the example a high speed silver iodidebromide/gelatin emulsion was treated with an aqueous solution of a levane and developed with alkaline metal-hydroquinone.
