Abstract

1,020,117. Apparatus for applying liquid developer to electrostatic images. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 7, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963 (2)], No. 5344/64. Heading G2H. An electrostatic image on a sheet 13 is developed with liquid applied by an applicator head 11 moved over the sheet by a reversible electric motor 17. Developer is prevented from escaping during application by an air curtain supplied by a compressor 23 through tubes 25 connected to a groove 39. A rectangular channel 37 connected to a funnel 22 by holes 61 and pipes 27, 29 provides a return path for developer to the funnel. A central channel 35 is connected with the funnel 22 for the supply of developer. In another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the applicator head 11<SP>1</SP> is curved for cooperation with a roller 71 supporting a web 13<SP>1</SP>. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) a terminal 85 connects a metal plate 101 to a bias voltage supply 83, such that plate 101 serves as a bias electrode to prevent unwanted deposition of toner in background areas. The developer may be toner particles dispersed in an insulating liquid.
