Abstract

1,019,067. Cutting tools; brazing. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. Aug. 19, 1964 [Sept. 2, 1963], No. 33867/64. Headings B3B and B3R. A tool has a wear-resistant cemented carbide tip 1, brazed on to a ductile cemented carbide plate 3, which is brazed to the tool shank 5. The composition of tip 1 may be 70À7% WC. 12À6% TIC. 12À2% TaC and 4À5% C, and the composition of plate 3 may be 87% WC, 13% Co. When assembling the tool, parts 1 and 3 are brazed on shank 5 in a single operation with the brazing interlayers 2, 4 of the same material. In a modification, plate 3 is brazed to tip 1 by copper nickel alloy and the composite plate is brazed to the shank by silver solder. In a further modification, plate 3 is brazed to the shank by a material having a high melting point, and tip 1 is then brazed to the plate by means of material of lower melting point.
