Abstract
1,019,054. Protective arrangements. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 27, 1964 [April 25, 1964], No. 17233/64. Heading H2K. In a brushless alternator having a rotating assembly comprising the alternator field winding 1a, rectifiers 2, 3 and the A.C. armature winding 6b of an exciter, fuses 4 are connected in series with the rectifiers and a ripple detector is connected in series with the stationary field winding 6a of the exciter to indicate a blown fuse. The ripple detector may comprise an airgap current transformer 8 supplying a neon indicator lamp 9 in series with a resistor 10. A filter circuit including an impedance 11 and a push-button switch 12 shunts the ripple normally present in the rectified supply to the exciter field winding 6a. Opening the switch 12 tests the ripple detector by causing the lamp 9 to be energized by the normal ripple component.
