Abstract

The generator or transformer are high power units. The phase currents are compared with each other and, in case of difference, a fault signal is displayed and/or steps are taken for disconnection and/or deexcitation of the generator. At least one Hall generator is used for the current measurement in connections to or from the star point. The generator is mounted on non-magnetic, insulating tubes surrounding the conductors at a given distance. Preferably the Hall generator (5) is energised by a direct current source provided for the protecting device. A rectifier in series with a voltage converter, coupled to the machine voltage, may be used for this purpose. The Hall generators may be mounted inside the tubes.
