Abstract

1,018,872. Measuring pressure electrically. APPLEBY & IRELAND Ltd. Oct. 3, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30272/62. Heading G1N. Relates to the provision of temperature compensation of a remote reading transducer as described in Specification 902,892 comprising a differential transformer having a primary 28 (Fig. 1) and two opposed secondary windings 30, 31 and a movable core 29 movable for example by pressure sensitive means, whereby to overcome errors in detection caused by variation of the resistance of the primary 28 with temperature (primary 28 may be subjected to wide temperature variation e.g. 100‹C. or over) there is provided a resistor 27 connected in series. A voltage source several times greater than the required primary voltage is provided and the series resistance 27 acts as a voltage dropper and as a swamping resistance, swamping the effect of the primary resistance variations on the measurement indicated in milliam-meter 37. The resistance 27 is maintained at ambient room temperature remote from the transducer which may be in a hot gas. As a further aid to accuracy the transformer primary 27 may be supplied with high frequency current (e.g. at 600 cycles/sec.), and an oscillator/amplifier circuit for the purpose is described.
