Vibrating screen apparatus comprises a screening deck providing a mounting for a screening cloth 28 and itself forming part of a spring-supported assembly, which is subjected to vibration, the screening cloth being fixed relative to the screening deck at one end, the other end of the cloth 28 being secured to a crosspiece guided for movement relative to the spring-supported assembly, cam means coupled to a manual operating member being carried by the spring-supported assembly to act on the crosspiece to move it along the assembly responsive to adjustment of the operating member. The screening deck is vibrated by rotation of an eccentric shaft 12 by an electric motor (not shown), which shaft is enclosed within a cylindrical housing (not shown) which terminates at each end in a bearing housing 14. Each bearing housing is secured by way of a saddle 16 to a generally O-shaped leaf spring 20, the out of balance mass of the rotating eccentric shaft 12 causing vibration of the screening deck, side plates 24 thereof being secured to the shaft housing. A plurality of tubular supports 26 are arranged between the side plates 24 and these carry the screening cloth 28 which is secured at one end to a fixed metal angle crosspiece 30 by being hooked over or bolted to the crosspiece. The other end of the screening cloth 28 is secured to a two-part crosspiece 34, 36, Fig. 2, both parts being formed of metal angle and being guided for movement in slots 38, Fig. 1, in the side plates 24 and in slots in a central reinforcing plate assembly 40, Fig. 2, arranged parallel to the side plates 24. A further metal angle 42 is secured between the side plates 24, having a metal strip (not shown) secured thereto to define a channel for receiving one edge of a wedge-shaped cam member 48. Two cam members 48 are provided each having an inclined face to engage with a roller 50 secured to either of the crosspiece parts 34 or 36. The cam members are each mounted on screw-threaded rods 52, which may be rotated to cause the rollers 50 to move along the inclined faces of the cam members 48 and thus tension the screening cloth 28.
